Family Group Conferencing Training

Community Orientation to FGC and Organizational Considerations

Half-day tailored presentation re: general overview, organizational support, community and capacity building for Family Group Conferencing.

Target Group: Child Welfare and Community, Stakeholders and Decision Makers


One-Day Basic Training (required training for coordinators)

Target group: referring workers; prospective coordinators; other stakeholders

Goals:

  • To develop an understanding of the history, philosophy and benefits of FGC

  • To develop familiarity with the conferencing process - referral, preparation process, conference stages, post conference


One-Day Advanced Training (required training for coordinators)

Target group: prospective coordinators; child welfare staff interested in a deeper appreciation of the process

Goals:

  • to develop an appreciation of the role of culture in conferencing

  • to develop and enhance skills in preparing children, preparing family members and service providers, facilitating safety for participants, anticipating conferencing challenges, preparing reports
