Michael Syron Memorial BursaryMichael Syron was a founding member of The George Hull Centre for Children and Families. Along with Dr. Clive Chamberlain, he oversaw the divestment from Thistletown Regional Centre, which became The George Hull Centre. He was the Chair of the Board from its inception in 1985 and remained on the Board until 1992. Michael attended many Ministry of Community and Social Services meetings in order to set the guidelines of service for the new Centre. He did his job well and those early parameters of the Centre ensured that it would address the needs of children and their families from birth through to age eighteen with a continuum of children’s mental health services. Michael left the Board to establish the George Hull Centre Foundation. He served as the founding Chair of the Foundation until his untimely death in 1995. In honour of Michael’s dedication and ideals, the Syron children have established a scholarship fund to be disbursed annually to a university or college bound student who has overcome obstacles, excelled academically and contributed to the community.
